Description

Location: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital (and other designated locations within the Trust as required)

Reports To: Security Team Leader / Security Manager

Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Summary: As a Security Officer, you will be an integral part of the security team responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors at the hospital. This includes monitoring CCTV systems, patrolling the premises, and managing access control systems. You will handle incidents of violence or aggression and ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a high-profile security presence to deter and detect suspicious activity in Hospitals and ED Departments.
  • Monitor CCTV systems in compliance with GDPR and Trust policies.
  • Conduct routine patrols of all hospital areas, including external buildings and parking areas.
  • Manage access control systems and issue identification badges.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including fire alarms and medical alerts.
  • Deal with violent or aggressive behaviour in a calm and effective manner, using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Document all security incidents accurately and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ensure all health and safety and security risks are reported and acted upon as necessary.
  • Approach all tasks with openness and dynamically assess each situation to solve problems effectively.
  • Provide non-clinical care and advice to hospital users, including those who are distressed or non-cooperative. Utilize effective communication strategies to ensure optimal guidance for patients, relatives, and carers.
  • Respond to calls regarding car parks both during and outside of regular hours, assist with cash collection at parking pay stations, and provide customer service as needed.
  • Manage key issuance, ensuring all sign-in and sign-out procedures are meticulously maintained.
  • Handle the collection and safekeeping of patient valuables as instructed.
  • Provide vigilant monitoring ("bed watch") of patients, particularly those under distress or those held under the Deprivation of Liberties Safeguarding (DoLS), responding sensitively to their emotional and physical needs.
  • Communicate effectively with hospital staff and external agencies, ensuring accurate information exchange and completion of necessary documentation.
  • Conduct routine and emergency patrols of the hospital premises, including external areas, to ensure a secure environment.
  • Appear in court as required, provide statements to the police, and cooperate with internal or external investigations.
  • Engage as an active team member, supporting colleagues, participating in meetings, and providing flexibility in work assignments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the management, within the scope of skills and capabilities.
  • Participate in formal training programs relevant to security duties to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • SIA (Security Industry Authority) license required.
  • Experience in a security role, preferably within a hospital or large organization will be given preference.
  • DMI trained officers are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physically fit and able to handle intense situations.

Skills:

  • Proficient in the use of security monitoring systems.
  • Effective at handling potentially stressful and violent situations.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires working in various shifts, including nights and weekends, to provide 24/7 coverage.
  • You will be required to work in different locations within the Trust depending on operational needs.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and meet health requirements as specified by the Trust.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the Trust's uniform policy.

Working Days and Hours:

We are looking for candidates for 4 on / 4 off shifts pattern for the following days and hours, we would prefer candidates to work the same working hours rather than mixing up the shifts:

Monday to Sunday 7am to 7pm (Days)

Monday to Sunday 7pm to 7am (Nights)

Start Date:

-DMI training will be held at Glenfield Hospital starting from 7th May 9AM continue till 13 May.

-Work start date will be 27th May.
