Description
Location: Sussex towns (Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, Crawley, Worthing)
Working Days/Hours: Friday and Saturday 20:00 - 04:00, (16 Hours Per week).
Salary: £14.00 Per Hour
Overview: The Night Safety Marshal Scheme is a critical initiative aimed at enhancing public safety and confidence, reducing demand on emergency services, and lowering serious violence in high harm areas identified by Sussex Police. Night Safety Marshals will work in partnership with local businesses and agencies to ensure communities feel safe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patrolling Nighttime Economy Hotspots:
- Deploy in high visibility uniform, equipped with night safe radio, body worn video camera, and GPS tracker.
- Conduct high visibility patrols in town centres to reduce serious violence and anti-social behaviour.
- Engage positively with the public, prevent low level incidents, gather intelligence, and report incidents to Sussex Police.
- Maintain records of incidents and interactions as per protocol.
- Vulnerability Reduction and Early Intervention:
- Identify and assist vulnerable individuals (due to intoxication, age, or other factors) in the nighttime economy.
- Log incidents via night safe radio and manage the situation accordingly.
- Escalate incidents requiring police assistance through appropriate channels.
- Provide support to lone vulnerable persons, including escorting them to Safe Spaces or approved locations.
- Crime Reduction and Incident/Intel Reporting:
- Identify and report low level public order incidents via night safe radio.
- Use tactical communication to intervene verbally in suitable situations.
- Maintain a safe distance from serious public disorder or violence, capturing evidence via body worn video.
- Report serious incidents directly to police officers for intervention.
- Record all intelligence and incidents using the mobile device app, complying with information security requirements.
Requirements:
- Must hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor Licence.
- Ability to work in high visibility environments and handle potentially challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement.
- Training in vulnerability identification and incident management.
- Competency in using body worn video, night safe radio, and GPS tracking devices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with police, local authorities, and other partner agencies.
- Flexibility to amend staffing for peak seasonal times and events.
Management and Reporting:
- Ensure all incidents and intelligence are recorded accurately and shared.
- Participate in regular briefings and debriefings with supervisors.
- Adhere to information security and management protocols for incident reporting.
